Biography

Robert Andrew Follweiler, DO, is a Board-Certified and Fellowship-Trained Orthopedic Surgeon specializing in Sports Medicine. Dr. Follweiler has focused his practice on the arthroscopic treatment of complex knee and shoulder disorders, as well as joint replacement surgery. His expertise allows him to treat a diverse range of sports-related injuries, fractures, and overuse injuries, utilizing both surgical and non-surgical methods as appropriate.

Dr. Follweiler began his academic journey at Florida State University, earning his undergraduate degree in biology. He then pursued his medical education at AT Still University Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine, widely regarded as the nation’s leading osteopathic medical school. Following medical school, Dr. Follweiler completed his internship and residency training at Michigan State University. During residency, he also underwent four months of intensive trauma training at Tampa General Hospital, a prestigious level one trauma center. His exceptional performance during residency earned him the distinguished Bob Green Memorial award for achieving the highest combined orthopedic board scores in the country.

Dr. Follweiler underwent additional training in arthroscopy and sports medicine through a fellowship at Orthopedic Research of Virginia in Richmond. During this time, he actively contributed to the care and treatment of athletes from local colleges and the Washington Commanders. Dr. Follweiler has dedicated nearly two decades to serving the southwest Florida community. In addition to his medical practice, he has served as a team physician for local high schools and continues to look for ways to serve his community.
